Todd Michael Hall - Don't Let It End (Malmsteen vocal cover)

You say the end of time
Is coming far too near
My love for life is torn
In vain through all the years
What's the answer to the question
That we have been searching for
Can you tell?

Don't want to fall apart
Before we have a chance
to try again, don't let it end

I tried so hard to make
It right for you and I
Your sacred promises
Have all become a lie
Is this your idea of destiny?
'Cause if it is, just set me free

You cannot fool me
With your stories being told
My god, it brings me down
I feel I'm growing old
Is this your idea of destiny?
'Cause if it is, just set me free

No, please don't end it now,
There is so much more we can do, you know
Don't let it end, don't let it end,
Don't let it end

Let's gather what we had
And build it up again
It used to be so good
Oh please don't let it end
No, don't let it end

Don't wanna fight you
Don't wanna argue
No no no don't let it end
Don't want no broken promises
Don't wanna fall apart again
Don't let it end!

Todd Michael Hall

«The second studio album released in 1985 by Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force was called “Marching Out” and I loved singing along to it.

It is hard to believe vocalist Jeff Scott Soto had just turned 19 years old when they started recording the album.

Jeff did an amazing job and it was through singing along with Jeff and other metal singers of the 80's that I learned how to develop my own voice.

I've met Jeff in person a few times now and even performed with him when Riot V invited him on stage to sing Swords & Tequila with us at ProgPower USA in Atlanta back in June of 2022.

He is one of the nicest fellows you will ever meet and a true road warrior.

Special thanks to Yngwie, Jeff and the guys in Rising Force for their awesome music that continues to inspire us to this day.

On the technical side:

I am calling this a live vocal cover, because I sang the song from beginning to end in one take without any vocal overdubs or edits.

I know this song well, so I was able to get a decent recording within a few tries. Jeff recorded the original tracks with a fair amount of power and even a touch of grit. I don't have much grit in my voice.

If I were cutting in and out for a studio-style recording, I would lean into it more, but to get a one-shot, all the way though take, I chose a cleaner approach to avoid vocal fatigue. I think this was my second or third attempt all done in one session.

The music came from Moises (with just the lead vocal deleted). I sent my vocal track and the music track to my friend Kurdt Vanderhoof who added some effects to the vocals and blended them in with the music. Special thanks to Kurdt for his assistance.»
