Τον Σεπτέμβριο του 1978 κυκλοφορούσε ο δίσκος των Black Sabbath "Never Say Die!". Ήταν το τελευταίο album με τον Ozzy στα φωνητικά (προσωρινά όπως αποδείχθηκε). Η απόλυση του frontman έβαλε την Βρετανική μπάντα σε περιπέτειες.
Κυριότερη η εξεύρεση αντικαταστάτη. Τα ονόματα του Coverdale και του Gl. Hughes ήταν τα πρώτα που έπεσαν στο τραπέζι και τα επικρατέστερα. Όμως η κόρη του manager των Sabbath (Don Arden), η Sharon (μετέπειτα σύζυγος και manager του Ozzy) πρότεινε τον Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) και το "γλυκό έδεσε".
Ανανεωμένοι οι Sabbs επανέρχονται δισκογραφικά το 1980 με ένα album "βόμβα": "Heaven and Hell" και εισέρχονται θριαμβικά στην νέα δεκαετία. Κυκλοφόρησε την άνοιξη του 1980 και γνώρισε δεκάδες επανεκδόσεις με πλέον πρόσφατη αυτή της BMG σε διπλό βινύλιο τον περασμένο Νοέμβριο.
Το τραγούδι "Neon Knights" (το εναρκτήριο του album) είναι το τελευταίο (χρονικά) μουσικό κομμάτι που συνέθεσε η μπάντα για τον δίσκο. "Βγήκε" και αυτόνομα, ως single, στον Ιούνιο της ίδιας χρονιάς (με μία "ζωντανή" εκτέλεση του ύμνου "Children of the Sea" στην δεύτερη πλευρά του βινυλίου).
