Paradox - "Priestly Vows" (lyric video)

Paradox (band)
When I took my priestly vows
I believed in them outright
Never thought that there
Would come a time to doubt
Now my vows have been belied
They fade into the night
Laid bare before
The alter I called home

Pray to the lord
The lord in heaven
Pray to the king of the jews
Pray to the virgin
And their son Christ
What have you got to lose

Even though my duty was to Rome
I’ve never followed all their rules
It’s different at home

Even though my duty was to Rome
I had my share of women some of virtue,
Some more rare
I drank wine beyond my calling
Though I don’t care no more
Because of you

Life is an open road,
My faith is failing
With all the things I’ve been told,
My faith is failing
Years spent repenting my sins,
My faith is failing ME

Now I must find a way,
A new path for my life
Now that we’ve see
What’s real and not a dream

I’ll see some old friends,
Perhaps make amends and plan a new strategy
Make money for me and my family,
The village and churchfolk to thee
I’ll go to the city
seek out people I’ve known
Put my standing to use

Perhaps get involved
With the people that solve the problems
I may have to face.

I must move at lightning
Pace to guarantee success
The people that I will meet
Won’t take anything less
I pack my bags my cleric clothes
My bible and a light
When in doubt pack everything in sight

The journey will take me many days
On horseback and by train
Travelling through the darks
Of night guided only by the flame
That lights my way

Once I’m there I’ll be bold... no stalling
Find those of whom I’m told... no stalling
To savour the sights and the sounds... no stalling
Find those where money abounds... no stalling
Pushed into an unsavoury crowd... no stalling
People so brash and so loud... no stalling
Actors and singers abound... no stalling
Choose the one I can turn around... no stalling
No one can know what I do... no stalling
Black mass is definately taboo... no stalling
I must hide every trace of my stay... no stalling
Take my money and leave the next day... no stalling

"Heresy II - End Of A Legend" τιτλοφορείται το νέο δισκογραφικό πόνημα της Γερμανικής μπάντας κι αναμένεται στα τέλη του πρώτου φθινοπωρινού μήνα...

Δελτίο τύπου: «When today’s Thrash Metal classic „Heresy“ was released in 1990, the world was different. The internet was nearly unknown. Mobiles were as big as buffalo bones. Wacken Open Air was a party for the village louts.

These are stories from a long forgotten time. But Charly Steinhauer and his band Paradox are still here and release the upcoming thrash classic “Heresy II – End of a Legend” with a brand new line up. The roots of Paradox go way back to 1981.

After several changes of names, Paradox was born in 1986. The debut “Product of Imagination“ (1987) was like a fresh breeze blowing through the scene, the concept album “Heresy” was an international success and catapulted Paradox in the first league of cult thrashers. More than 30 years later, it’s time for the eighth studio album “Heresy II – End of a Legend“.

To create a worthy successor, frontman Charly Steinhauer gathered round a very special line up. Guitar wizard Christian Münzner and long time bass player Olly Keller are back after a break of one album. On the drums we have Paradox co-founder Alex Blaha.

The last album he played on was “Heresy”, and now he is back in the bosom of the family. And we have Peter Vogt who was the man behind the lyrical concept of the first two Paradox albums. He wrote the story of the crusade of the Catholic Church against the schismatic Cathars in the 13th century. And this tale isn’t over yet.

Musically and lyrically, „Heresy II - End of a Legend“ starts where the first part ended in 1990. The opener „Escape from the Burning“ shows some lightning fast riffs, due to the voice of Charly, the song is catchy as hell. In a different way from other bands, Paradox stands true to their style.

Heavily influenced by the first three Metallica albums, the Bavarian outfit found and improved their sound decades ago. Other examples for this thesis are the complex “Journey into Fear”, the majestic semi-ballad “A Meeting of Minds”, “Priestly Vows” which resembles slightly of Testament’s riffing, or “A Man of Sorrow” with its addictive guitar riffs.

The icing on the cake is a cover version of the legendary Metal Church instrumental “Merciless Onslaught”. Guitarist Christian Münzner reaches more than once the technical limits with his solos and leads and refines the ideas of Charly Steinhauer with various sophisticated musical creations.

The album was produced by Steinhauer himself, the mastering was done by Hannes Grossmann in MordorSound Stuidio in Veitsbronn. The sound follows the lyrics, appears to be dark and menacing, but very transparent at the same time. Old school meets new production techniques.

Paradox (nomen est omen) succeed in sounding nostalgic and modern at the same time. Last but not least, no-one less than Travis Smith (Opeth, Nevermore) was recruited for the impressive cover artwork.

After a longer lean period, fans can expect 75 minutes of finest melodic trash metal on „Heresy II – End of a Legend“ which sounds even in the year 2021 as fresh and new as in its commercial heydays at the end of the 1980s. On September, 24th the time has come: The Return of Thrash with Class!»

Paradox: «"Heresy II - End Of A Legend" will be released via AFM-Records on September 24th, 2021! The story concept and the lyrics were written by PETER VOGT, who was also responsible for the lyrics of our debut album "Product Of Imagination" (1987) and Heresy (1989).

How does it sound? Well, don't expect that we tried hard to sound like the 80s because we didn't want to copy ourselves and rest on old laurels. Don't worry, because we managed to combine all of Paradox's strengths on this album to consolidate our own style.

With the first song you blindly recognize which band is playing here. It`s 100% Paradox! With 75 minutes of playing time, it's actually almost a double album, but you had to wait 5 years for a new record. Therefore we allow ourselves to present you a little more music.

It can be long if it's good and yes... it's fucking great! Soon we will also unveil the tracklist and the cover artwork by TRAVIS SMITH (Opeth / Nevermore) We would like to thank our record company AFM-Records for the good cooperation and trust over the past 21 years!

Our very special thanks goes to you, the fans, for your loyal support over the past 35 years! 'One person's religion is another person's Heresy'. Stay tuned!»
