Η αποχώρηση του Ronnie James Dio από τους Rainbow το 1978 έφερε και αλλαγή μουσικής κατεύθυνσης στο συγκρότημα του Ritchie Blackmore. Το επικολυρικό στοιχείο στην μουσική και το μυθολογικό στους στίχους περιορίστηκε στο ελάχιστο, με την μουσική πάντα να προσφέρει πιο "γήινη" μουσική, λιγότερο εξειδικευμένη και περισσότερο εύληπτη στο μέσο αυτί προσπαθώντας (κυρίως) να "ανοίξει" την Αμερικάνικη αγορά.

Συνοδοιπόροι στην προσπάθεια του Ritchie Blackmore σε αυτό το εγχείρημα ήταν αρχικά ο Graham Bonnet κι εν συνεχεία ο Joe Lynn Turner που ανέλαβαν το μικρόφωνο. Η δεύτερη περίοδος των Rainbow ξεκίνησε με τον δίσκο "Down to Earth" που κυκλοφόρησε το καλοκαίρι του 1979.

Κάπως έτσι συστήθηκε στο (ευρύτερο) μουσικόφιλο κοινό ο Graham Bonnet (παρότι δισκογραφεί από το 1970). Μετά τους Rainbow τον ακούσαμε -μεταξύ άλλων- στους Alcatrazz, Michael Schenker Group, Impellitteri, Michael Schenker Fest κλπ.

Το 2015 σχημάτισε και το προσωπικό του σχήμα (Graham Bonnet Band), το οποίο επιστρέφει το νέο έτος δισκογραφικά μετά από μία πενταετία. Ο διάδοχος του μουσικού δίσκου "Day Out in Nowhere" (2022) και full length allbum της μπάντας του 79χρονου τραγουδιστή φέρει τον τίτλο "Circuit Breaker", αποτελείται από εννέα τραγούδια και αναμένεται την άνοιξη του νέου έτους (στις 26 Μαρτίου 2027).

Ακούμε τους Graham Bonnet (φωνητικά), Conrado Pesinato (κιθάρα), Beth-Ami Heavenstone (μπάσο), Alessandro Bertoni (πλήκτρα) και Shane Gaalaas (τύμπανα). Συμμετέχουν επίσης ο Bruce Dickinson (φωνητικά στο τραγούδι "The Fifth Force of Nature"), Roger Glover (μπάσο στο μουσικό κομμάτι "Wait for the Day to Break") και Kai Hansen (στο τραγούδι ("The Captain").

And while Circuit Breaker stands firmly on the strength of its songs, Graham has brought along some truly extraordinary friends.

Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson joins him for the explosive “The Fifth Force Of Nature,” an historic meeting of two of hard rock and heavy metal’s most unmistakable voices. Dickinson also appears alongside Graham in the accompanying music video, making the collaboration an even more unique event.

Graham reunites with his former Rainbow bandmate Roger Glover on “Wait For The Day To Break.” Helloween and Gamma Ray icon Kai Hansen adds another dimension to the album with a guest appearance on “The Captain.”

There is another fascinating thread connecting Circuit Breaker to one of the landmark albums of Bonnet’s career. Russ Ballard, whose songwriting provided Rainbow and Graham with the immortal “Since You Been Gone” on 1979’s Down To Earth, contributes songs to the new album, reconnecting the two more than four decades later and providing a direct link between an essential chapter of Graham’s past and his music today.

But Circuit Breaker is far more than an exercise in nostalgia.

From the immediate punch of “No One Is Talking” and “Feel The Power” to the melodic drive of “Landslide,” the intensity of “Vengeance Is Mine” and the commanding title track, this is an album alive with the combination of melody, muscle and personality that has always set Bonnet apart.

At an age when most artists would be content to celebrate their past, Graham Bonnet continues to add to it.
