Το μακρινό 1975 ο Ian Gillan, ψάχνοντας το νέο μουσικό μονοπάτι, δημιούργησε τους Ian Gillan Band, οι οποίοι τρία χρόνια αργότερα (και μετά από τρία full length albums και ένα live album) μετονομάσθηκαν σε "σκέτο" Gillan.
Ο δίσκος "Glory Road" ήταν (ως Gillan) το τρίτο full length album των πρώην (και νυν καθώς επέστρεψε) τραγουδιστή των Deep Purple. Ηχογραφήθηκε το δίμηνο Απρίλιος - Μάιος του 1980 και κυκλοφόρησε στις 8 Αυγούστου του ιδίου έτους.
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι στην Βρετανία κυκλοφόρησε (και) σε διπλό βινύλιο, μαζί με δίσκο που έφερε τον τίτλο "For Gillan Fans Only". Όταν άρχισε να κυκλοφορεί σε cd τα περισσότερα τραγούδια του "For Gillan Fans Only" μπήκαν ως bonus tracks.
Την σύνθεση της μπάντας του Ian στον εν λόγω μουσικό δίσκο αποτελούν ο Bernie Tormé (ο οποίος την επόμενη χρονιά αποχώρησε από την μπάντα κλήθηκε να καλύψει το μεγάλο κενό που προκλήθηκε στην μπάντα του Ozzy από τον θάνατο του Randy Rhoads, ενώ στην συνέχεια τον ακούσαμε στους Atomic Rooster, στους Desperado του Dee Snider κλπ) και αντικαταστάθηκε από τον Janick Gers (ο γνωστός από τους Iron Maiden, μετά τους White Spirit πήγε στο συγκρότημα του Gillan), ο Colin Towns στα πλήκτρα, ο John McCoy στο μπάσο και ο Mick Underwood (The Outlaws, Episode Six, Quatermass κλπ) στα τύμπανα.
Το πρώτο τραγούδι της δεύτερης πλευράς του βινυλίου ("On the Rocks") φέρει την υπογραφή του Ian Gillan και του Colin Towns. Στην παρούσα ανάρτηση θα παρακολουθήσουμε τον Ian Gillan και το συγκρότημά του να αποδίδουν το εν λόγω μουσικό κομμάτι στις 23 Φεβρουαρίου 1981, στην τηλεοπτική εκπομπή - σειρά του BBC "Rock Goes To College"...
