Cynic - 'Kindly Bent to Free Us' (official album stream)

Η Αμερικάνικη μπάντα με το Ελληνικότατο όνομα (Cynic) δημιουργήθηκε το μακρινό 1987. Έμεινε ενεργή για μία επταετία και το 1994 μετονομάσθηκε σε Portal. Το 1996 το συγκρότημα διαλύθηκε για να επιστρέψει μία δεκαετία αργότερα.

Το διάστημα 2015-2017 η μπάντα δεν ήταν τυπικά ενεργή καθώς ο Masvidal χρησιμοποιούσε το όνομα χωρίς να του ανήκει εξ' ολοκλήρου, κάτι που έγινε με την συναίνεση του Sean Reinert για να ξεκινήσει το 2017 η (τυπικά τρίτη, ουσιαστικά) τέταρτη περίοδος του συγκροτήματος.

Στην πρώτη τους περίοδο οι Cynic κυκλοφόρησαν πέντε demos και έναν "ολοκληρωμένο" δίσκο ("Focus" 1993, με το τραγούδι "Veil of Maya" να προκαλεί σχετικό ντόρο). Συνολικά έχουν κυκλοφορήσει τέσσερα full length albums (συν τέσσερα EPs, δύο συλλογές και κάποια singles).

Εστιάζουμε στον τρίτο δίσκο τους ("Kindly Bent to Free Us"), ο οποίος πρωτοκυκλοφόρησε τον Φεβρουάριο του 2014. Φέτος, την ημέρα των... ερωτευμένων (14 Φεβρουαρίου 2025), η δισκογραφική εταιρία Svart Records τον επανακυκλοφόρησε σε δωδεκάιντσο βινύλιο με ένα επιπλέον τραγούδι, το "Earth Is My Witness" που κυκλοφόρησε και αυτόνομα φέτος ως single.

Θλιβερή διαπίστωση, από τους τρεις μουσικούς που συνέβαλαν και μετέχουν στην δημιουργία του δίσκου, οι δύο (ο μπασίστας Sean Malone και ο drummer Sean Reinert) απεβίωσαν προ πενταετίας (το 2020)...

Cynic was formed in Miami, Florida by Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert in 1987, blending elements of progressive rock, alternative, and metal. Their third full length offering Kindly Bent to Free Us is the final Cynic album to feature original drummer Sean Reinert and long time member Sean Malone on bass, who both passed away in 2020.

Originally released on a 2LP version and mastered at 45rpm, Svart Records in cooperation with Cynic now proudly present the single LP edition of the album including a bonus track Earth Is My Witness for the first time on vinyl and a booklet with linter notes by Martin Popoff, lyrics, notation to the song Kindly Bent to Free Us and more.
