Στις 11 Μαρτίου 1985 κυκλοφορούσε ο πρώτος "ολοκληρωμένος" δίσκος των Sisters of Mercy υπό τον τίτλο "First and Last and Always". Το εναρκτήριο τραγούδι ("Black Planet") ήταν το τρίτο single που "έβγαλε" το ντεμπούτο των Άγγλων gothic rockers (μετά το "Walk Away" και το "No Time to Cry").
