«Haggard is an internationally known ensemble from Germany which was founded in 1989. Their style of music is an enchanting mixture of classical music, medieval music and metal. The special thing: All instruments are played by real musicians on stage!»

Κάπως έτσι μας συστήνονται οι Haggard, οι οποίοι δημιουργήθηκαν το μακρινό 1989 και συνεχίζουν ακάθεκτοι μέχρις τις ημέρες μας, αν και δισκογραφικά το... ρολόι δείχνει να... σταμάτησε στο 2008 (βλ. τον δίσκο "Tales of Ithiria").

Ξεκίνησαν ως death metal συγκρότημα και σταδιακά προσέθεταν στοιχεία κλασικής (και μεσαιωνικής) μουσικής, θυμίζοντας (σε μεγάλο βαθμό) την διαδρομή των Therion. Το ντεμπούτο των Haggard, υπό τον τίτλο "And Thou Shalt Trust... the Seer", κυκλοφόρησε το φθινόπωρο του 1997 και (αν δεν με απατά η μνήμη) "βγήκε" (και) μέσω του περιοδικού Metal Hammer (από εκεί το απέκτησα και τους έμαθα).

Τρία έτη αργότερα, τον Φεβρουάριο του 2000, κυκλοφόρησε ο διάδοχός του ("Awaking the Centuries"). Εντυπωσιακό το γεγονός ότι η μπάντα αποτελείται από είκοσι μέλη - μουσικούς και παράλληλα στο εν λόγω album μετέχουν ως καλεσμένοι (special guests που λένε και στο χωριό μου) και άλλοι... 16!
