Το μακρινό 1983 σχηματίσθηκαν στις ΗΠΑ οι Legacy. Τέσσερα έτη αργότερα (το 1987) και μετά από την κυκλοφορία ενός demo με τον Steven Souza (των Exodus) στα φωνητικά μετονομάσθηκαν σε Testament και τα υπόλοιπα είναι λίγο - πολύ γνωστά!
Το πρώτο όνομα του συγκροτήματος αποτέλεσε τον τίτλο του ντεμπούτου του δευτέρου ("The Legacy"). Κυκλοφόρησε τον Απρίλιο του 1987.
Ο διάδοχός του έφερε τον τίτλο "The New Order" και "βγήκε" την επόμενη χρονιά (5 Μαΐου 1988). Σε λίγες ημέρες (12 Ιουλίου 2024) η Nuclear Blast θα το επανακυκλοφορήσει υπό τον τίτλο "The New Order (Remastered)" σε βινύλιο (1.500 κόπιες) και σε ψηφιακή μορφή.
Σε σχέση με την αρχική έκδοση του δίσκου υπάρχει ένα επιπλέον τραγούδι. Πρόκειται για την διασκευή στο μουσικό κομμάτι των Aerosmith "Nobody's Fault". Ακούμε τον Chuck Billy στα φωνητικά, τον Alex Skolnick και τον Eric Peterson στην κιθάρα, τον Greg Christian στο μπάσο και τον Louie Clemente στα τύμπανα...
