Το τραγούδι "Phantom Lord" το πρωτακούσαμε στο demo των Metallica "No Life 'til Leather" που κυκλοφόρησε σε κασέτα το καλοκαίρι του 1982 (βλ. το επιλογικό τραγούδι). Παράλληλα αποτέλεσε μέρος και του ντεμπούτου των Αμερικανών metallers "Kill 'Em All" που "βγήκε" την επόμενη χρονιά (Ιούλιος 1983).

Σύνθεση και στίχοι των James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich και David Mustaine. Προ ημερών (6 Νοεμβρίου 2022) οι Metallica το απέδωσαν "ζωντανά" και μας λένε σχετικά: «Filmed at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, on November 6, 2022, during a night where we celebrated the lives of Jonny & Marsha Zazula.»
