Η μουσική μπάντα Chastain δημιουργήθηκε από τον Mike Varney (ιδιοκτήτης της δισκογραφικής εταιρείας Shrapnel Records) ουσιαστικά μόνο για τον προσωπικό δίσκο του κιθαρίστα David Taylor Chastain, αλλά τελικά εξελίχθηκε σε "κανονικό" συγκρότημα (με τον David T. Chastain να κυκλοφορεί solo albums κάτω από το όνομά του).
Δημιουργήθηκε το μακρινό 1984 (την ίδια χρονιά με τους εξαιρετικούς CJSS, στους οποίους συμμετέχει επίσης ο David Chastain) και παραμένει ενεργό μέχρι τις ημέρες αν και υπήρξαν περίοδοι που μπήκε στον "πάγο". Τον χειμώνα του 1985 κυκλοφόρησε ο πρώτος δίσκος τους υπό τον τίτλο "Mystery of Illusion".
Στα μέσα Νοεμβρίου το ντεμπούτο των Chastain επανακυκλοφορεί [ως "Mystery Of Illusion (Anniversary Edition)"] με δύο επιπλέον τραγούδια (οι demo εκτελέσεις του "Mystery of Illusion" και του "The Winds of Change") και μία συνέντευξη των David T. Chastain / Leather Leone.
Δελτίο τύπου: «Chastain exploded onto the Metal scene with the release of their epic debut album "Mystery of Illusion" in 1985. Shortly after the release of that album the band met up in Cincinnati, Ohio to play a concert at Bogart's.
The band for the show was David T. Chastain on guitar, Leather Leone on vocals, Mike Skimmerhorn on bass, Russell Jinkens on second guitar and Les Sharp on drums. The concert was actually a showcase for a major label that Mike Varney had arranged.
We recently found this concert on a Beta tape and had it transferred to digital format. Considering the show was 35 years ago and shot on one camera by a fan, it obviously has some technical flaws but we decided to release it for its "historical" importance.
Leather's performance alone is worth the price of admission! "We Shall Overcome" was a standout track from the album that has withstood the test of time. "Mystery of Illusion" has just been reissued on Cd by Divebomb Records. Photo by Mark Alexander.»
