Emerald - "Endless War" (video)
Την λέξη σμαράγδι (για την ακρίβεια σμάραγδος) την χρησιμοποιούσαν οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες (βλ. Θεόφραστος) και εννοούσαν τους πολύτιμους πράσινους λίθους. Το σμαράγδι είναι μία διαφανής, βαθυπράσινη παραλλαγή της βηρύλλου, της οποίας το χρώμα αποδίδεται σε προσμίξεις χρωμίου (κυρίως). Ο χημικός του τύπος είναι: Be3Al2Si6O18. Από την Ελληνική λέξη σμάραγδος προήλθε η Λατινική Smaragdus, η οποία στην λαϊκή Λατινική γλώσσα έγινε Esmaralda/Esmaraldus. Από αυτή την λέξη προέρχεται και η αντίστοιχη Αγγλική λέξη για το σμαράγδι, Emerald.
Υπάρχουν αρκετά συγκροτήματα στο ευρύτερο hard / heavy μουσικό φάσμα που επέλεξαν το Emerald ως όνομα. Αυτό που μας απασχολεί στην συγκεκριμένη ανάρτηση μας έρχεται από τις Η.Π.Α. Δημιουργήθηκε το 1984, διαλύθηκε δύο χρόνια αργότερα (χωρίς να κυκλοφορήσει κάτι), επανήλθε προ τετραετίας και συνεχίζει μέχρι τις ημέρες μας.
Οι Emerald κινούνται σε hard & heavy μουσικά μονοπάτια κι αναφέρουν ως επιρροές μπάντες όπως οι Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Accept, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Queen, Beatles κλπ. Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει τέσσερις "ολοκληρωμένους" δίσκους. Ο πιο πρόσφατος τιτλοφορείται "Requiem" και "βγήκε" προ ημερών...
