North of South - "The Human Equation" (lyric video)

Οι North of South μας έρχονται από την Ισπανία και η εταιρεία τους περιγράφει την μουσική τους πρόταση κάπως έτσι: «a not-easy-to-classify metal that could be labeled as Progressive Metal with Jazz, Death, Pop and Latin influences». Στα τέλη Σεπτεμβρίου θα κυκλοφορήσει το ντεμπούτο τους υπό τον τίτλο "New Latitudes"...

Δελτίο τύπου: «Rooted in the fascinating city of León, located in the northwest of Spain, North of South springs from the need to explore new creative territories, blending Metal with other genres and being entirely convinced that not everything in music has been invented yet.

Based on these premises, guitarist Chechu Gómez officially initiates in 2017 an individual project that, in his mind, had already begun to breathe life very much earlier.

His debut, “New Latitudes” (2018), outlines a changing soundscape, full of nuances, clearly affiliated to Metal, but unequivocally linked to other music styles, such as Pop, Jazz, Piano Rock, Progressive Rock, Flamenco and Latin rhythms.

The album was recorded at Zoilo Unreal’s studios (Marín, Spain), a consolidated name on the Spanish extreme metal scene, involved in bands like Unreal Overflows, The Anthagonist and Unhuman Nature.

As far as North of South is concerned, a crossbreeding of influences acts as a cause and as a consequence, trying to amalgamate some elements, apparently so dissimilar, such as At The Gates‘ melodic punch, Carlos Santana‘s hispanic sounds, Opeth‘s compositional deepness, The Police‘s rich substrate-Pop, Anathema‘s emotional power and Kate Bush‘s chameleonic intention.

Similarly, the heterogeneous literary influence of authors of the calibre of Jorge Luis Borges, Orson Scott Card and William Shakespeare surfaces from the tunes of “New Latitudes”, that, conceptually, gravitates around subjects like the enigma of time, the greatness of human condition and its limits facing the Universe, and our own personal contradictions.

A media professional and host of his own Heavy Metal radio show for almost two decades, this first album represents also his leap to the other side of the trench: from journalism to creation; from reviewing to being reviewed.

From North to South,
new latitudes await to be discovered.
It doesn't matter what you find;
what does is the attitude of going out and seeking the unexpected.

North Of South is a different kind of Metal.»
